Wei Jian graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (B.Sc. Arch) from University Malaya in 2018 and completed his Master's degree in Architecture (M.Arch) from the same institution in 2021. He is always eager to learn and expand his knowledge in the field of architecture and life in general. Wei Jian has a responsible yet easy-going personality and a strong sense of leadership. During his internship, one of his colleagues described him as "exquisite". Wei Jian has a particular interest in heritage architecture, community, and culture, which is reflected in his research on these subjects that he presented at the CABE conference in April 2021.
Wei Jian is currently an architectural associate who is responsible for a few projects in Singapore. His previous work experience includes projects of varying scales and typologies, ranging from a large master planning proposal in Fujian, China, to the design of various residential typologies in Singapore. He was also part of the team responsible for designing the interior architecture of dentistry clinics in Shanghai, China. Additionally, Wei Jian participated in the Field School Publication Project during his degree, which focused on the study of community and architecture in Ban Panthom, Bangkok, Thailand. As he explored and learned from his supervisors and colleagues from different cultures, Wei Jian gained a better understanding of designers' perceptions from across the globe. He believes that architecture is the embodiment of people and nature within the stilt structures constructed by mankind.
For Wei Jian, architecture is the art of enjoying and appreciating sculptures. He loves to capture the scenery of the places he visits, which has become his hobby and passion during his travels. Wei Jian believes that the beauty of architectural photography lies not only in the perfectness of the building in a frame but also in the scenery that frames the culture and people who exist within the structure. Photographs limit the field of view and freeze critical motion, directing the viewer's attention to the story of the community and their architecture. Wei Jian understands that people perceive and appreciate art differently, and architecture is a fusion of tangible and intangible elements. To him, architecture is about the sustainable interaction between people, culture, and structure presented to the audience.
